The Designer: Karen M. Kozlowski

Originally from the metro-Detroit area in Michigan, Karen has spent the last +15 years in several different areas around the US even had several international designs in Beijing, China and Santiago, Chile..  she is now based in the metro-Detroit area where she has reestablished herself as a professional designer in the experiential Marketing, Event and theatre design industries; after having spent ~10 years teaching, designing and as head of a Design/Tech program at Binghamton University. Since being back in metro detroit Karen Has partnered with Several companies and has become SKILLED with integration of technologies into physical environments.  As well as having connected with several universities (Oakland university and Wayne State University) where she is adjunct faculty.

For Karen design and art in any form, theatrical or otherwise, is about observing the world past and present to bring an awareness to the final product.  Looking at the whole picture learning and observing what has been done, what the current trends are but not just in art and design but socially, politically both locally and globally.  The world is a unified whole and each element effects every other element like a giant mechanism with dependent cogs. Design is about having a sense of observational awareness and understanding, to the best of our ability, how function and form mesh with the aesthetic and conceptual.

Design is a form of communication, it has value and shows a path through understanding, research, collaboration, art, technology and creates a viable method for presentation and EXECUTION of immersive art.
